The Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) was established in 1991 as the official body that represents professional golfers in Kenya. The organization is affiliated with the International Golf Federation and the African Golf Confederation and has played a crucial role in promoting the sport in Kenya and developing the skills of professional golfers.
The PGK was founded by a group of professional golfers who saw the need for an organization to represent their interests and to promote the sport in Kenya. The founders included professional golfers such as George Owino, S.T. Kimani, Francis Wambua, and Sammy Kamau, who was the first Kenyan golfer to turn professional.
One of the primary objectives of the PGK is to provide support, training, and coaching to professional golfers in Kenya. The organization also organizes local tournaments throughout the year, which provide opportunities for professional golfers to compete and showcase their skills.
The PGK has been instrumental in promoting professional golf in Kenya, and several of its members have achieved success both locally and internationally. For example, Jacob Okello, a PGK member, has won the Kenya Open twice, and Greg Snow, another member, has won several tournaments on the East Africa Golf Tour.
The PGK has also been actively involved in promoting golf among young people in Kenya. The organization has launched several programs aimed at developing the skills of young golfers, with the aim of nurturing future professional golfers.
