David Wakhu Clinches Maiden PGK Equator Tour Title as Greg Snow Claims Order of Merit and Safaricom Tops Corporate League
Nairobi, Kenya – The PGK Equator Tour Grand Finale concluded in spectacular fashion on Sunday at Royal Nairobi Golf Club, delivering a thrilling close to the 2025 season with standout individual and corporate performances.
David Wakhu, playing under the Johnnie Walker brand, emerged champion of the grand finale to claim his first-ever PGK Equator Tour title. Wakhu posted a winning total of -13, highlighted by the best round of the final day — a superb 66 gross, sealing victory at one of Kenya’s most prestigious golfing venues.
Mutahi Kibugu, representing Safaricom, finished second on -12, while Njoroge Kibugu, playing under NCBA, secured third place at -11, completing a highly competitive podium.
Beyond the final event, Greg Snow was crowned the PGK Equator Tour Order of Merit winner, having accumulated the highest points across the season. Snow’s consistency throughout the tour earned him the overall season title, reinforcing his status as one of Kenya’s leading professional golfers.
The Corporate League title for the PGK Equator Tour was won by Team Safaricom, which finished top of the final corporate rankings. The winning Safaricom team was represented by Samuel Chege, Mutahi Kibugu, Mohit Mediratta, and Mathew Wahome, combining consistent performances across the season to secure first place. Kenya Airways finished second, followed by Johnnie Walker in third, with NCBA, Visa, and Britam completing the final corporate standings.
The closing ceremony was graced by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports, Mr. Elijah Mwangi, who reaffirmed the Government of Kenya’s commitment to supporting professional golfers and strengthening structured pathways that enable Kenyan talent to compete at the highest levels. He commended the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) for delivering a successful national tour that promotes excellence, discipline, and athlete development.
A key highlight of the ceremony was the announcement of the professional golfers who will represent Kenya at the Magical Kenya Open, scheduled for February at Karen Country Club. The selected team was drawn from the Top 15 players on the PGK Equator Tour Order of Merit, further underscoring the tour’s role as the official qualifying pathway to Kenya’s premier international golf event.
The 2025 PGK Equator Tour, launched in July at Ruiru Sports Club, traversed leading golf courses across the country before culminating in a successful grand finale at Royal Nairobi Golf Club. The tour continues to anchor PGK’s long-term vision — Road to Magical Kenya Open 2026 and Road to Olympics 2028.
PGK extends its sincere appreciation to Royal Nairobi Golf Club, its members, sponsors, partners, players, and fans for their unwavering support throughout the season.
