The Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) is proud to officially welcome Joyce Wanjiru Njuguini into its professional ranks, marking a historic milestone as she becomes the second lady golfer to turn professional and join PGK, alongside Naom Wafula.
Joyce’s journey to the professional stage is a powerful story of passion, resilience, and excellence. Her introduction to golf began in 2009 as a caddy at Kiambu Golf Club, where she first discovered her love for the game. In 2010, she moved to Muthaiga Golf Club as a caddy, already showing clear intent and commitment as an active player.
Her amateur playing career officially took shape in 2011, when she became a full member of Kiambu Golf Club. Through discipline and consistent improvement, Joyce rose rapidly through the ranks, earning her first national team call-up in 2015 to represent Kenya at the East Africa Challenge Trophy in Malawi—just four years after becoming a club member.
Since then, Joyce has proudly represented Kenya on the international stage in tournaments across Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mexico, Ghana, and other destinations, gaining invaluable experience and flying the Kenyan flag with distinction.
In 2023, she joined the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) system and is currently ranked 754th globally. Among her standout achievements is holding the Nakuru Ladies Course Record at 4-under-par, a testament to her competitive caliber.
On the local circuit, Joyce has been a dominant force, actively competing in GOTY and KAGC events. In the 2025 season, she has recorded an impressive 7 wins out of 13 GOTY events, and currently leads the standings with 129 points.
Beyond competition, Joyce is deeply committed to the growth of the game. She dedicates her time to coaching junior golfers at Kiambu Golf Club, where she mentors approximately 30 young players, nurturing the next generation of Kenyan golfers.
As Joyce officially transitions into the professional ranks, PGK celebrates not only her achievements, but also the inspiration her journey provides. Her entry into professional golf signals renewed hope and opportunity for more women golfers to take up the challenge, compete at elite levels, and showcase their prowess on the course.
PGK remains committed to supporting and growing women’s professional golf in Kenya and believes Joyce’s milestone will encourage more ladies to pursue the professional pathway.
Welcome to the professional stage, Joyce Wanjiru. The journey continues.
